]]> On Sunday, May 5th 2013, the Greek-Catholic church of Our Lady of Damascus was literally packed with Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Serbian and other Slav faithful accompanied by their children. Since early in the morning, they flocked the church, carrying colourful Easter baskets which they placed in front of the iconostasis. At the end of Holy Liturgy, Papas George blessed the great number of baskets, after which the congregation solemnly chanted the paschal hymn Christos Anesti ek Nekron – Christ is Risen from the Dead.

]]> As in previous years, the Greek-Catholic Church of Our Lady of Damascus (Valletta, Malta) this year has celebrated the various services and divine liturgies characterizing the Holy Week and which lead to the glorious day of Holy Easter. Apart from members of the local community, these holy services and liturgies were also attended by a number of local and foreign visitors.

Χριστὸς ἀνέστη ἐκ νεκρῶν,
θανάτῳ θάνατον πατήσας,
καὶ τοῖς ἐν τοῖς μνήμασι,
ζωὴν χαρισάμενος!

Transliteration:

Christós anésti ek nekrón,
thanáto thánaton patísas,
ké tís en tís mnímasi,
zoín charisámenos!

English translation:

Christ is risen from the dead,
Trampling down death by death,
And upon those in the tombs
Bestowing life!
