Papàs Martin Zammit installed as Parish Priest of the Greek-Catholic Church of Our Lady of Damascus Parish (Valletta, Malta)

On Sunday, 18th July, 2021, Papàs Martin Zammit became the twenty-first parish priest of the Greek Catholic Church of Our Lady of Damascus parish. The installation ceremony took place at the Church of St Nicholas, in Valletta. Parish priest emeritus, Mons. George Mifsud, and Fr Anton Farrugia Pisani O.F.M. concelebrated. Assisting the Divine Liturgy were His Grace  Archbishop Charles Scicluna, Valletta parish priests, representatives of various religious orders, and many parishioners and friends of the Greek-Catholic church. At the beginning of the Divine Liturgy, Rev. Mons. Hector Scerri read out the decree of installation. On the express wish of His Grace the Archbishop, this happy occasion was televised ‘live’ on TVM2.

Papàs Martin Zammit was appointed sub-deacon in 2014, and was ordained deacon in 2015. On the 11th of June, 2017, he was ordained priest of the Byzantine rite.

The Greek-Catholic Parish in Malta goes back to the arrival in Malta of the knights of the Hospitaller Order of St John (1530) who were accompanied by a sizeable contingent of Greeks from the island of Rhodes.

May the Almighty, and his All-Holy Mother, Our Lady of Damascus, assist Papàs Martin in his pastoral mission.
