On the occasion of the feast of the Theophany (the baptism of Christ and the manifestation of the Holy Trinity), on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, Papàs Martin Zammit, parish priest, accompanied by deacon Jesmond Schembri and sub-deacon Dennis Mifsud, carried out the service of the blessing of the waters on the picturesque shores of the medieval port town of Vittoriosa. This is the second time that the Greek-Catholic parish of Our Lady of Damascus (Valletta) has performed such a religious service. Special thanks go to Rev. Fr Karm Busuttil, archpriest of the collegiate of St Lawrence, and to Rev. Fr Stephen Attard, canon of the collegiate, for hosting and supporting this initiative. Numerous members of the Greek-Catholic parish, as well as parishioners from Vittoriosa, attended this religious ceremony. Above all, heartfelt thanks are due to the swimmers who braved the rigid wintry weather and dived to get hold of the cross tossed into the sea, symbolizing the immersion of Christ in the waters of the Jordan river.
Apart from its church dedicated to Our Lady of Damascus, in Valletta, the Greek-Catholic parish operates also from the chapel of the Holy Trinity situated in Triq iċ-Ċentinarju tal-Parroċċa in Vittoriosa. (Heartfelt thanks to Mischa and Johann for providing the video.)
