A Unique place of prayer

The Greek Catholic Church of Our Lady of Damascus in Valletta is the only one of its kind in the Maltese islands. This small oasis of peace, serenity and unity at the very heart of bustling Valletta offers a unique spiritual experience. Here, visitors have the opportunity to spend some moments of silent reflection and prayer, surrounded by beautiful icons and under the motherly gaze of the Panaghia (‘All-Holy’) Lady of Damascus. In this church, Christians from many different traditions from all over the world come together in prayer. Catholics of all rites, Orthodox of Greek, Russian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Georgian and Albanian backgrounds, as well as Oriental Orthodox faithful from Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Syria, Armenia, and Iraq find in the Church of Our Lady of Damascus an ideal spiritual ambience where to pray and also to attend the Divine Eucharistic Liturgy in the Byzantine rite. Moreover, this place of worship also attracts visitors from many non-Christian backgrounds who cannot but admire its delicate architectural features and its collection of icons harmoniously arranged throughout the church.
